Regional Construction Recruiter Sets Out Ahead Of Global Competitors
Regional construction recruiter Bromak has bulldozed the competition in the latest analysis of the construction recruitment industry.
The report carried out by leading industry analysts Plimsoll was based on the top 320 specialist construction recruitment agencies across the UK.
In the report Bromak have seen off global giants Hill McGlynn and Associates, Search Consultancy Ltd, Fusion and CDI Anders Elite, via successfully increasing their sales growth by 145.2% to £7 million since last year.
This positions the Bolton based agency fifth out of 320 on a national basis.
Director Martyn Makinson said: “It’s fantastic to see that the amount of hard work and enthusiasm our sales teams invest into the business is paying dividends.
“In return Bromak is committed to the organic growth and development of our staff which in turn has enabled us to become frontrunners in the construction recruitment market.
“The results from Plimsoll bode well for future success and highlight the level Bromak that has reached in recent years.”
With offices in Leeds, Manchester, Preston, Bolton, Birmingham, Liverpool and Newcastle-Under-Lyme 2008 is set to see further expansions for Bromak Ltd.
Bromak Moves to The "Capital of The North"
Construction Recruitment Specialists, Bromak are moving their top office to the centre of Leeds this summer.
Their Yorkshire office which is currently located in Huddersfield was the company’s most successful site in 2006, David Brooks the Managing Director of Bromak said the move to South Parade in Leeds city centre is a reaction to the success of the branch:
“Huddersfield was the first office we opened when we moved into Yorkshire. At first it was a good location as it was close to the North West where our other offices were based, but we’ve grown so much in the last year, a lot of our clients are now based in Leeds and surrounding areas, and because Leeds is central to Yorkshire and also one of the most prominent cities in the region this move seemed like the next logical step.”
Bromak opened a flagship office last autumn, expanding from Bolton to Manchester; which had a huge positive impact on the company, and Mr Brooks hopes this most recent move will have the same effect.
“When we opened the office in Manchester the amount of business we got doubled, and if we can get the same from Leeds, which I’m sure we can, the success of Yorkshire can only continue.”
Bromak's sucess forces expansion in Manchester
Bromak Construction recruitment have moved their offices in Manchester from Deansgate to a bigger space in Oxford Road following the success of the branch.
Originally Bromak had a serviced office in Centurion house on Deansgate, however after company expansion in the last year, and with the addition of a sister company, Bromak Utilities, Directors David Brooks and Martyn Makinson wanted a bigger office space within the city centre. Having an office near the train station, also makes it more easily accessible for clients and candidates to come for meetings and interviews.
In the future Bromak will endeavour to increase the number of offices in the Yorkshire and Midlands regions to give them the same presence that is in the North West.
With the extra space in the office at Oxford road, Bromak will take the team of 8 to approximately 15 over the next year.
Safety First, says Bromak
In a bid to promote the importance of safety to candidates in the construction industry, specialist recruitment agency, Bromak have put all their contract consultants through the CITB Health and Safety test.
Construction companies are increasingly asking for workers who have a valid CSCS card, so Bromak Directors, Martyn Makinson and David Brooks felt putting their trades consultants through the test was an obvious step to take.
“If we are going to call ourselves construction recruitment specialists we need to know about all areas of the industry, said Mr Makinson
And within any sector, but especially construction, Health and Safety is always top priority.”
Bromak now have 5 CSCS qualified members of staff and David Brooks said it will be a test all the relevant consultants will take.
“As a construction agency our consultants try to get on site as often as possible, so by having their CSCS cards it puts them in a position to promote the importance of health and safety to our current and potential candidates as well as having personal awareness of the dangers of a construction site.”
Bromak, Positive about mixed aged workforces
Construction recruitment company Bromak has teamed up with ‘Age Positive’ to fight age discrimination in the workplace.
On October 1st 2006 new legislation will make age discrimination illegal in the majority of work places and forbid employers to force employees over the age of 65 to retire.
However, Bromak took a proactive step to help people affected by this prejudice over 18 months ago when they joined Age Positive, a team from the Department of Works and Pensions that promote the benefits of employing a mixed aged workforce.
Martyn Makinson, Director of Bromak said: “We contacted Age Positive because it’s a campaign we really wanted to get involved in. We have employees from the age of eighteen up to over sixty; in fact lots of our employees are in their fifties and sixties. For us age can often be an advantage because in construction, experience is a priority for a lot of our clients.”
However, age discrimination does not just apply to older employees and the new laws will mean that the lower and upper age limits for unfair dismissal (currently 18 and 65) will be removed, in most circumstances every employee, regardless of age with be considered for training and promotion, and employers must seriously consider any employees wish to carry on working after retirement age.
Clicks and Mortar
Expanding recruitment consultancy brings construction into the future with fraud reducing online time sheets.
Bromak Construction Recruitment is now using online time sheets to reduce fraud, speed up payments and become more environmentally friendly.
BOLT (Bromak Online Timesheets) provides clients and candidates with a username and password so that time sheets can be filled in online and authorised using computers.
The company’s new system comes in response to the Government’s legislation which requires company’s to pay employees whether their time sheet has been signed or not.
The proposal was met by concerns from recruiters that they would have no way of knowing whether the hours being claimed were actually undertaken. There were also worries that removing agencies’ right to withhold payment exposed them to the risk of fraud.
Martyn Makinson, Director of Bromak said “By utilising what we already have with the Internet it makes dealing with time sheets a lot easier. We can automatically see that the time sheet has been authorised by the client and so we can proceed with payment.
“Our company relies heavily on the Internet and we’ve put a lot of work into our website because everyone knows that the Internet is the future. Online times sheets just seemed like the next logical step in our business evolution.”
Bromak, who have 3 offices including one in Huddersfield, have only been in operation for three years, but in that short time have built up a £5 million turnover.
Mr Makinson believes this is because they focus on customer service. “We originally just dealt with Yorkshire and the North West, but now we have the capability to move into the Midlands to be closer to our customers which is really what we’re all about.”
Construction goes Green
Leading Construction recruitment consultants, Bromak, are pioneering a new idea in an attempt to become more environmentally friendly.
The company, based in Newcastle under Lyme, will be introducing online time sheets for the people they recruit.
Under the new system, named BOLT (Bolton Online Timesheets), employees will be able to electronically input their work hours, which will automatically get sent to their employee and once authorised, go straight to Bromak who can then pay the employee their wages.
Martyn Makinson, Director of the company said the idea will tackle a number of issues. “Obviously online time sheets are more environmentally friendly, but there are also new laws that say employees must be paid even if their time sheet is not signed, this obviously brings up the concern of fraud, so if everything is done automatically all parties are protected.”
